Green Vault at Royal Palace Dresden

Green Vault at Royal Palace Dresden

Dresden unique: the Green Vault within the Royal Palace.

The green vaults were the treasure chambers of King August the Strong and it is a unique experience to admire the enchanting works of art in their original baroque setting, which was destroyed during the Second World War.

In two areas “New Green Vault” and “Historic Green Vault” of very different character, visitors will experience the magnificent artworks of gold, silver, precious gems, enamel, ivory, bronze and amber in an intensity unparalleled to date.

In the “New Green Vault”, select works of art can be admired from right up close. Antiglare glass showcases fitted with state-of-the-art lighting technology focus the attention on each individual work of art and allow the viewer a close look at the richly detailed work of art.

The „Historic Green Vault“ has opened its doors on the occasion of the city’s anniversary in 2006. In harmony with the festive architecture, 3000 artworks present standing freely against a background of richly embellished and mirrored display walls and on ornamental tables. In this incomparable Baroque setting, the individual artwork recedes behind the overflowing abundance of the whole.

We are happy to offer you a VIP tour with an expert of the buiding through both parts of an exclusive guided tour before official opening hours.
